Freedom Foods 100 Healthy Calories range of cereals and cookies, produced by Freedom Nutritional Products, has become a finalist in the FOOD Magazine Challenge Awards for its clear and innovative approach to product labelling.
The range adheres to a strict set of nutrition criteria, developed by Freedom Foods, in order to reduce calorie intake and control serving sizes, and the nutrition values in each category are displayed on the front of each pack for consumer clarity.
As its name indicates, each product was formulated to contain no more than 100 calories per serve and be low in fat, sugar and salt, high in fibre and incorporate low-GI ingredients.
In the Hi Lite breakfast cereal and breakfast bar, more than 50% of the ingredients are nutritious whole grains, and the herb psyllium, high in soluble fibre, was added to ensure the high fibre content of the product.
The cookies incorporate a starch rich in fibre and pre-biotic properties, to encourage beneficial bacteria in the bowel.
