No more rotten tomatoes

Australia is at the centre of an appeal by Nigerian authorities to help establish a tomato processing plant in the county in order to cut colossal regular losses.

Kano state commissioner of agriculture and natural resources, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, made the call when he received the Australian High Commissioner in his office.

He said Kano is among the leading states in the country in tomato production but due to lack of processing plant and the perishable nature of the commodity, thousands of tonnes get lost every year.

The state government is currently in discussion with Dangote Group towards establishment of the tomato processing plant, and has appealed to the Australian High Commissioner to encourage Australian businessmen to invest in the sector.
