27 jobs lost as oat processing plant closes

Green’s General Foods has announced the closure of Lowan Whole Foods’ oat processing plant at Nhill.

The 27 workers at the processing plant will lose their jobs, after the group decided to shut down the site.

According to the company, it would need to invest between $5m to $7m to keep the site viable, because the plant was not producing the required volume.

It will outsource the operations to Blue Lake Milling at Dimboola.

The local council is putting some hope on selling the plant to other businesses, be it for organic material or another manufacturing and processing purpose.

If the deal is settled, the 27 workers could continue their employment.
