Advancing Food Safety announces inaugural scholarship winner

Advanced Food Safety (AFS) – SAI Global has presented 21 year old Emma McPherson, a laboratory technician at Lion Dairy and Drinks with its first ever scholarship, designed to foster talent in the food safety industry.

Commencing in January 2014 and launched in line with the Australian HACCP Conference 20th anniversary, the scholarship will allow McPherson to undertake a Diploma in Food Industry QA Management, which encompasses HACCP training, internal food safety auditing, lead food safety auditing, food safety QA management and advanced food safety QA management.

Expert trainer at AFS – SAI Global, John Fallon said the launch of the scholarship is one of the many avenues that the organisation has developed to promote and nurture highly skilled industry professionals.

“It’s our aim to drive new, and develop existing, talent further in an aim to help increase the level of expertise within the industry. The launch of this initiative creates a pathway for passionate individuals who want to excel in their contribution to food safety. This is something we’re planning to continue as an annual event,” he said.

The funded scholarship can only be achieved through a competitive selection process, and AFS – SAI Global said it was McPherson’s drive and ambition, together with her article submission on why Listeria is present in manufacturing and finished goods nationally that helped her get across the line.
