Advancing international trade at World Expo 2025

World Expo 2025

Australian food and produce were on display in Osaka, Japan, at a Queensland Day luncheon during World Expo 2025.

The audience included Japanese importers, distributors, and potential agritech investors. The luncheon was hosted by governor of Queensland and primary industries minister Tony Perrett, with meals served to showcase Australian food products.

“International trade is paramount to the success of Queensland; we value our trading partners and events like this go a long way in strengthening our relationships,” said Perrett.

“The increasing demand for Queensland’s products and services proves the undeniably positive reception we are receiving in North Asia.

“These products are a result of the drive and passion of Queenslanders, whose reputation for high quality products of exceptional standards is world renowned.”

According to Perrett, Japan is one of Australia’s largest trading partners and plays an important role in driving the production sector to $30 billion in the next five years. Japan is Queensland’s fourth-largest agricultural export market, valued at $1.65 billion in the year ending March 2025.

“The focus is also on the remarkable innovations in agtech developed in Queensland, exported and adopted around the world,” he added.

“Japan is a significant and vital trading partner of Queensland’s farmers and fishers, and will play an important role in reaching our ambitious target of growing the State’s primary production sector to $30 billion by 2030.”

Driven by Trade and Investment Queensland, the Taste of Queensland initiative connects international buyers, importers, and distributors.

“Connecting Queensland businesses with the right markets helps to fuel their export ambitions and take Queensland to the world,” said minister for finance, trade, employment and training Ros Bates.

Building international relationships is key to growing Australia’s food and beverage sector. This initiative at World Expo 2025 provides opportunities to put Australian products at the forefront of the global market.
