Angry Birds soft drink outselling coke

A new soft drink branded on the popular ‘Angry Birds’ mobile game has outsold Coke and Pepsi in some markets of Finland, and will soon be available in Australia and New Zealand.

Rovio chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka said since launching in the gaming mega brand’s homeland, the Angry Birds drink had squeezed the global monopoly held by current drink manufacturers.

But according to Finnish newspaper Taloussanomat, Vesterbacka’s claims aren’t the whole story.

While Finnish consumers have certainly taken a liking to Angry Birds, the product only exceeded Coke and Pepsi sales in some market segments during the spring it was released.

This sparkling success was also confined to certain stores and certain soft drink sizes.

Nevertheless it’s good news for consumers looking for diversity, and will likely have drink makers nervously awaiting the product’s Australian launch.

If you’re wondering what it tastes like, reports say the drink is sweet and tastes a little like apples.

Other flavours include Red Bird-Strawberry, Blue Bird-Blueberry, Yellow Bird-Lemon, and Black Bird-Cola.
