Apricot kernels recalled for cyanide fears

ChiTree apricot kernels have been recalled, amid fears of high levels of naturally occurring cyanide.

Queensland chief health officer Jeanette Young told the Courier Mail the product could be dangerous if consumed.

“Anyone who has purchased ChiTree apricot kernels are advised not to eat them as it is unsafe,” she said.

“Consumers should seek a refund.”

The recall is being done on a voluntary basis by ChiTree’s Victorian-based distribution company.

ChiTree has closed its website and posted a notice of the recall and in a letter to customers, explained that the warning signs to look out for include dizziness, nausea and headaches.

Anyone who thinks they may have eaten the product should contact the health hotline in their state.
