Aussie beef by-products banned in Russia following growth stimulant detection

Australian beef by-products have been temporarily banned in Russia following the detection of trenbolone, an active ingredient in hormone growth promotants.

The ingredient which is banned in Russia was said to have been found in ‘several shipments’ of the Australian product, ABC News reports.

Trenbolone is used in many countries around the globe including Australia, however Russian authorities say that the ban of the ingredient applies to beef by-products as they accumulate the steroid in larger quantities than meat.

The Federal Government as well as the Red Meat Advisory Council are currently working to clarify import requirements.

The temporary ban also affects Belarus and Kazakhstan.
