Organic Australian lamb will be exported to the United States for the first time, with thousands tones expected to go each year.
Processing company T and R Group has established a deal with US food marketer Wegman’s, the ABC reports.
Paul Leonard, livestock manager at T and R told the ABC organic lamb is a delicacy many are willing to pay the extra money for.
"Wegmans are similar to the David Jones food hall in Australia," he said.
"Their customer base is the type of people who are prepared to pay a premium for quality food.
"Their demand requirements initially are probably just 1,200 to 1,500 lambs a week, 60,000 lambs a year.
"So it’s more than you think."
The first shipment is expected to leave in February 2012.
