Australia has been globally recognised as the second best country for wine – following France – at this year’s International Wine Challenge in London.
According to a report by The Advertiser, Australia took home 61 gold medals at the two-week blind tasting competition, which was held as part of the London International Wine Fair in the United Kingdom.
France received 98 gold medals.
South Australian winemaker, Wolf Blass, was awarded gold for its Black Label 2006, Gold Label Riesling 2008, Platinum Label Shiraz 2007 and Yellow Label Shiraz 2009.
"This success reinforces the exceptional quality across the breadth of our portfolio from the commercial tiers right through to our luxury wines," Wolf Blass chief winemaker Chris Hatcher told The Advertiser.
"To achieve such strong results within a highly reputable international wine show only further highlights our ongoing commitment to driving global growth, notably within the UK as a key market for Wolf Blass."
Other South Australian wine producers that won multiple gold medals include Kilikanoon, Penfolds and Hardys Wines.
Around 10,000 entries were considered in this year’s competition.
