Amidst the recent chaos of Australian supermarkets struggling with supply shortages, Canstar Blue has revealed the top-rated frozen food items to turn to.

Canstar Blue asked over 3,000 Australians who purchased and consumed a frozen meal or finger food in the last six months to reveal ALDI, Coles, Brogs and Sargents as the top-rated brands.

The winners of Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers Awards 2022 included:

  • Frozen meals: Coles
  • Frozen fruits: ALDI
  • Frozen vegetables: ALDI
  • Frozen chips and wedges: ALDI
  • Frozen party food: Borg’s
  • Frozen pies: Sargents
  • Frozen pizzas: ALDI Casa Barelli

Canstar Blue Home and Lifestyle expert, Megan Birot, said Australians may want to buy frozen meals as a substitute for fresh food if they cannot find all the products they need in their local supermarket.

“With fresh food in low stocks, Aussies may find themselves having to do without staple ingredients and this makes preparing meals more difficult or expensive if they need to buy items they normally wouldn’t,” Birot said. “Frozen meals are a great, long-lasting alternative to turn to during this supply shortage.”

In addition to frozen meals, the comparison website also asked Australians to rate frozen fruits and vegetables.

“ALDI has topped the frozen fruits as well as frozen vegetables categories – with 49 per cent of consumers saying they purchase frozen fruits and vegetables to keep in the freezer as a backup,” Birot said.

When it comes to purchasing decisions, most Australians choose their frozen food brands based on convenience (67 per cent), followed by price (15 per cent) and taste (13 per cent).
