Ball Corp to build beverage can factory in Vietnam

Vietnam’s growing middle class is a lucrative market for rigid metal packaging supplier, Ball Corp, who recently announced that it will help build a beverage-can factory in Vietnam to produce 850 million cans.

The new plant is a joint venture with Thai Beverage Can.

The project’s value is estimated at CAD $45 million (AUD $46 million). Production is expected to begin in the first half of 2012.

Ball Corp and Thai Beverage Can have operated a can plant in Thailand since 1996.

In the past couple of years, Vietnam has seen a foray of ICT manufacturing companies enter its market. Among them are Intel Corp and Canon Inc. Last year, Intel opened a US $1 billion (AUD $99 million) assembly and testing plant in Ho Chi Minh City.
