Barossa winemaker, Doug Lehmann dies

Doug Lehmann, Deputy Chairman of Peter Lehmann Wines and son of founder Peter Lehmann, passed away in his family home in the Barossa over the weekend, aged 62.

A sixth generation Barossan, Lehmann learnt all facets of the winemaking business from his father before embarking on a successful career of his own.

Lehmann joined Lehmann Wines in 1990. During his time at the business he served as managing director where he opened markets in Europe and USA, and successfully raised the profile of Peter Lehmann Wines to become one of Australia’s most respected wine producers.

Following his retirement in 2010, Lehmann maintained an active role in the business, serving as non-executive deputy chairman.

CEO Jeff Bond said that Lehmann was a man that epitomised the values of family and community.

“Doug was a team man, and always said it was people that make great wines. With that, he always led by example,” Bond said. “He upheld the legacy of his father, which remains in every aspect of the company today, and will continue to.”
