Barry Callebaut resumes Ivory Coast cocoa exports

Swiss cocoa processor, Barry Callebaut, has resumed its cocoa exports from the West African nation of Ivory Coast after a five-month ban was lifted on Sunday.

The ban on exports was put in place following a disputed presidential election in November, which led to armed conflict across the country. According to Bloomberg, the ban was lifted last month, and shipments have started to flow as local banks reopen.

The first vessel, destined for Europe, has reportedly left the port of San Pedro, while other container shipments – headed for the US, Mexico and Europe – will leave San Pedro and the port of Abidjan later this week, spokesman Raphael Wermuth told Bloomberg.
