Cauliflower growers in Tasmanian have had to lower their asking price to settle with Simplot.
The 20 growers – who supply all of Australia’s processing cauliflower – will receive an increase of 17.6% on next season’s crop.
Grower group chairman, Glen Connors, said they will be paid $627 a tonne, but they would have liked $640 to cover increased costs.
“Everybody has different ideas on what the real costs are,” he explained. “The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association did some work on how much our costs had gone up and Simplot argued they hadn’t gone up quite as much as they thought.”
