Coca-Cola Amatil builds $20 million distribution facility on former tyre factory site

Coca-cola Amatil (CCA) will build a new 35,000sq m distribution facility on former Bridgestone tyre factory site in Salisbury, South Australia.

The new facility will cost the beverage giant over $20million to build will be located on the corner of Frost and Cross Keys Roads, Salisbury, according to a report by Adelaide Now. The new location is reportedly closer to distribution centres of its major clients.

Approximately 80 staff will be relocated from the company’s Gillman site to the new site. Construction of the new facility will not affect CCA’s manufacturing base at Thebarton, the report states.

Last month the CCA opened two new blowfill lines at the company’s Thebarton production facility in South Australia; the two new is the beverage manufacturer’s largest single investment in blowfill technology to date.

Overall, CCA has invested about $35 million in blowfill technology in for its South Australian operations. The investment will enable the drink maker to design and manufacture its own PET beverage bottles using fewer raw materials at the Thebarton plant.

In June this year, CCA opened a $57 million bottle preform and closure manufacturing site on Eastern Creek, New South Wales..

The site uses injection moulding technology to manufacture plastic bottle closures (caps) and PET resin preforms that will be used to make PET plastic bottles at CCA’s other manufacturing sites in Australia and New Zealand.

The plant is situated within the Roussell Road, Eastern Creek site of the company’s $90 million automated distribution centre. The new site is part of CCA’s “final stage” of vertical integration of its manufacturing facilities in Australia and New Zealand.

CCA beverage range include brands under licence from The Coca-Cola Company (major brands include Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, diet Coke, Sprite, Fanta, Glaceau vitamin water, Powerade Isotonic, Mother energy drink), along with CCA-owned brands.
