It’s succulent, exceptionally crisp and for the first time, is now available to purchase from select major supermarkets and leading independent fruit shops throughout Australia. That’s Jazz™, Australia’s newest apple variety with the catchy name that is set to make music in Australian mouths.
The Jazz™ variety was introduced to Australian growers by Montague Fresh, one of Australia’s largest handlers of locally grown apples and stone fruit, and is a cross between Braeburn and Royal Gala — a marriage which results in a superbly sweet, tangy apple with a crisp texture.
Small to medium in size and boasting a shiny green skin with pink-red blush, Jazz™ is sure to top fruit bowl charts across the country. Furthermore, the dense butter yellow flesh of Jazz™ delivers a taste to match its fine appearance.
“Montague Fresh searches the world for the top varieties and we believe Jazz™ is the best eating apple in the world,” says Ray Montague, Executive Director of Montague Fresh, whose team has devoted eight years to the Jazz apple project.
Over the next four years, Montague Fresh will work with some of Australia’s leading apple growers to plant around 500,000 Jazz™ trees in specially selected cool-climate regions of Australia. Batlow (NSW), Huon Valley (TAS), Adelaide Hills (SA), Stanthorpe (QLD), Manjimup (WA) and Southern Victoria are among those to have been identified by Montague for producing Jazz™ apples with good internal and external characteristics.
In celebration of JAZZ™ arriving on shelves across Australia, the team from Montage Fresh will host a special media breakfast and public tasting at Norton St Grocer (Westfield — Bondi Junction) on Tuesday April 29.
