Manufacturers require accurate position control when transferring products from production conveyors onto storage pallets. Dimetix laser distance sensors are built for accurate position control.

Variations in pallet height, particularly where non standard pallets are used to transport and store products horizontally, can create alignment challenges during automated handling. Reliable distance measurement is therefore necessary to ensure products are positioned and placed correctly.

Dimetix laser distance sensors are used to measure pallet height and support position adjustment within conveyor systems. The sensors communicate with control systems commonly used in manufacturing environments, allowing measurements to be integrated into automated processes.

In the staging area, a servo driven actuator system tracks what moves along the conveyor line. Once the conveyor picks up the products, it cannot compensate for differences in pallet height. The laser sensor measures the pallet height and transmits this information to the control system, which adjusts the stopping position of the products accordingly. After the it is halted, the machine tilts it into place at a point calculated to prevent sliding or misalignment. The product is then placed onto the pallet.

The sensors operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +60°C. Measuring ranges extend up to 100 metres on natural surfaces and up to 500 metres on reflective foil, with stated accuracy of ±1 mm. Measurements can be acquired by a PLC or PC system. Installation is supported by a visible laser beam, and configuration is carried out using dedicated software. The system is designed for maintenance free operation.
