Doritos creator dies

The creator of the world’s first tortilla chip company, Doritos, has died in Dallas.

Arch West, the retired Frito-Lay marketing executive died on Tuesday at the age of 97, the Dallas Morning News reports.

In a fitting tribute to the man credited with making Doritos the first tortilla chip brand in the US, his daughter Jana Hacker said the family plan on “tossing Dorito chips in before they put the dirt over the urn.”

West’s rise to the top came from a chance encounter with a snack shack selling fried tortilla chip while on a family vacation near San Diego.

Initially, his idea to develop his own tortilla chip was met with apprehension but he conducted marketing research and decided to roll out Doritos, which is still successful today.
