Egg warning following salmonella outbreak

Victoria’s Green Eggs company has been linked to a salmonella outbreak which saw more than 200 people affected dining at restaurants in Torquay and St Kilda.

According to the ABC, Victorians are being warned not to consume raw Green Eggs’ eggs and suppliers have been advised to destroy their eggs.

Victoria's chief health officer, Dr Rosemary Lester, said Green Eggs should not be eaten with a soft yolk and consumers should cook the eggs thoroughly.

Lester said it would be a few more days until the department could guarantee that the Green Eggs company is responsible for the outbreak, however initial investigations suggest it is at fault.

Late last year, Piccalilli Catering was identified as the Brisbane catering company at the centre of another salmonella outbreak, which contributed to the death of one elderly lady and 220 others falling ill.

"We are deeply upset and distressed by this outcome. We always pride ourselves on sourcing the freshest Australian ingredients for our kitchens. We feel very disappointed and let down that the normally reliable fresh food supply chain has failed us – and our clients – on this occasion," Piccalilli Catering co-owner, Helen Grace, said at the time.
