FOGO services expanded by three new projects

Through WasteSorted Organics Infrastructure Grants, three recycling facilities will expand food organics and garden organics (FOGO) recycling infrastructure in Western Australia.

Veolia Recycling and Recovery has been allocated $1.55 million to expand its FOGO services at its Landsdale facility. The upgrades will include a FOGO transfer facility, capable of receiving and processing up to 50,000 tonnes of FOGO material per year. The fully enclosed infrastructure will feature advanced air control systems to minimise environmental impact.

Veolia Recycling and Recovery has also received an additional $597,500 for its North Bannister compost facility. By increasing the site’s processing capacity by 60,000 tonnes per year, the total capacity will rise to 100,000 tonnes annually.

“FOGO recovery and recycling is such an easy but impactful way for our community to divert waste from landfill and do our part to help protect the environment,” said Landsdale MLA Daniel Pastorelli.

“This significant funding boost will enable the processing of up to 50,000 tonnes of FOGO material every year in Landsdale, supporting local jobs and building the capacity of our State’s recycling industry to enable more households to get involved.”

Purearth will use $1.51 million in grant funding for new infrastructure at its organic composting facility, enabling it to receive and process an additional 80,000 tonnes of FOGO material annually.

These government-initiated expansions aim to support a circular economy and create local jobs.

“The Cook Government is dedicated to advancing the recycling industry and building a more sustainable future for Western Australia,” said environment minister Matthew Swinbourn.

“By investing in FOGO infrastructure, we’re reducing landfill waste and promoting a circular economy, creating long-term environmental and economic benefits, including local jobs.”

More than $3.6 million will be shared between the three projects.
