Fonterra plants produce 86 million litres of milk to meet growing demand

Fonterra’s new processing plants around the country have seen a record amount of peak milk made into value-added products, processing more than 86.9 million litres of milk on the biggest day of the year.

Managing Director of Global Operations Robert Spurway said the additional capacity gave Fonterra more options in its product mix.

“This season we’ve been able to bring new plants online to drive greater value into both of these parts of the business. We now have more options around how and where we process our milk meaning we can prioritise milk into higher margin products,” Spurway stated.

Growing and diversifying customer demand will be able to be easily met due to Fonterra’s successful milking season, leading to a broader response towards changing market trends.

Fonterra has been attempting to strike the right balance between their ingredients and their foodservice capabilities as a result of processing the large volumes of milk.
