Pioneers of Australian Grappa, Pietro Gallo Estate have taken two major Awards in the 2019 World Drinks Awards announced in the UK last week. Celebrating the world’s best drinks, the awards ranked Grappa al Caffè, inspired by the Italian classic ‘Caffè Corretto’, as the Best Australian Coffee in the World Liqueur section and the Grappa Di Prosecco, crafted by combining century-old Italian methods and modern distilling techniques, Gold in the World Grappa awards unaged category. These ratings augment double gold, silver and bronze awards achieved in China, USA and Australia earlier this year and in 2018.
These global accolades are a testament to the quality and authenticity of the Victorian disgestifs which are hand-crafted in a bespoke distillery at the estate located at the outskirts of metropolitan Melbourne. The grappa is made with great amounts of dedication and being recognised on the world stage validates the hard work and attention to detail of the passionate team at the estate.
“Winning Gold for our Grappa di Prosecco and Best Australian Coffee for our Grappa al Caffè is a dream come true. To be recognised internationally amongst some of the most long-standing Italian Grappa producers in the world is an achievement in itself”, says estate co-founder John Di Pietro. “As a pioneer of Australian Grappa it is very exciting to be paving the way forward”, he continued.
“There is an authenticity in what we are creating here. Our distillery in Warrandyte is home to the only purpose-built-grappa-still in Australia” says Head Distiller, Nathan Rigby. “The ethos of our Distillery is based around authenticity and high-quality local produce with outstanding results”, he concluded.
“We created Olivigna, the restaurant at the estate, five years ago as a little slice of Italy just 45-minutes drive from Melbourne and have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we’ve received from the hundreds of people who visit us each week.
