Alister Haigh, fourth generation owner of the South Australian family business Haigh’s Chocolates, has received the Leader Award at the 2025 South Australian Premier’s Food and Beverage Industry Awards.
The award recognises an individual in the state’s food and beverage sector who has shown creativity, excellence and leadership that inspires others and contributes to a shared vision for the business. The recognition follows a year of broad growth for the long established chocolate brand.
“This year we’ve celebrated our 110 year anniversary, appointed a new CEO, opened our new facility in Salisbury South, and opened our 22nd retail store in Broadway Sydney,” said Haigh.
“It’s been an exciting time for the business, and I am so proud to see the love for our chocolates continue to span all generations,”
Haigh announced his retirement earlier this year after 30 years leading Haigh’s Chocolates.
“I am honoured to receive this award and recognition as I step away from being CEO and acknowledge the other outstanding nominees who are driving forces in the food and beverage industry,” he said.
“Reflecting on my time, it’s incredible to think how far we have come over the years all while remaining true to the heritage and quality Haigh’s is known for. I look forward to watching our team continue to drive our business forward.”
The South Australian Premier’s Food and Beverage Industry Awards include 16 categories that acknowledge the state’s established businesses and emerging entrants. The theme for this year is “Shaping the Future: Honouring Legacy, Celebrating Excellence”. The awards are hosted by Food South Australia with support from the Government of South Australia through the Department of State Development.
Haigh’s Chocolates has also been recognised for its commitment to learning and development, receiving the Education and Training Award.
Peter Millard has been appointed chief executive officer after 19 years with the company and looks forward to continuing the Haigh family’s legacy.
