Industry teams up with academics to create Food Innovation Cluster

The University of Newcastle (UON) has unveiled a new initiative designed to connect food businesses with academic researchers in an effort to develop solutions for industry problems.

The Joint UON and Central Coast Food Innovation Cluster, launched at the University’s Central Coast Campus at Ourimbah, brings together researchers from across multiple disciplines within the University of Newcastle, as well as government members and experts from within the regional food and beverage industry.

The Cluster will aim to address a number of industry and community concerns including identifying new products for market; establishing new opportunities to export; examining issues such as nutritional values and food additives; and creating opportunities for research breakthroughs.

A number of networking events will be held in 2014 inviting industry participants to put forward topics, themes or specific challenges for discussion.

"The vision for the University of Newcastle clusters is to offer a one-stop-shop for business, industry and government partners to work with our researchers who bring different expertise to the table," said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Nick Talley.
