The Australian government will invest $1.5 million to fund the staging of a horticulture conference and trade show, Hort Connections, over the next three years.
Aimed at fostering connections between more than 4,000 delegates in the sector, the investment ensures the trade show will catalyse research and innovation ideas that will drive Australia’s food and beverage industries.
Horticulture production is expected to increase by 4 per cent to $190 billion in 2025–26. Similarly, exports are forecast to rise by 8 per cent to $4.4 billion.
“Every day across the country Australians enjoy the benefits of our proud industry – from breakfast and brunch in the morning to dinner and dessert in the evening,” said minister for agriculture, fisheries and forestry Julie Collins.
“Horticulture is Australia’s third largest agricultural sector and is showing no signs of slowing down. It’s feeding the nation and fuelling the economy.”
The investments were fully funded in the 2025–26 Budget. The Australian government has committed an additional $23.8 million, increasing investment in regional trade events over three years. The $1.5 million investment will directly support regional events and forums, driving innovation in the broader industry, including the food and beverage sector.
As the horticulture sector continues to thrive, new opportunities will emerge for Australian businesses and organisations involved in food manufacturing.
