A Western Australian lamb processor is the overall winner of this year’s PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Food and Beverage Industry Awards.

The West Australian Meat Marketing Cooperative took home $10 000 in business advice services from PwC after winning the ‘Best from the West’ award.

The Cooperative was awarded the top prize for a refit of their Katanning processing plant, which has improved efficiency and subsequently returns to their producer members. WAMMCO was eligible for the overall prize after winning the Innovation category.

Western Australian Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman congratulated Cooperative for its win last Friday in Perth.

“Our food industry makes a vital contribution to the economy and households of Western Australia, directly employing 19,500 people and allowing consumers to access a wide variety of fresh, locally-grown produce,” Redman said.

“Thse awards highlight our diverse and innovative State food and beverage sector. It is vital that their vision and growth is recognised and supported.”

Other key award recipients included:
• Best Service to Industry Award – Jaymak Perth;
• Best Food Product or Achievement Award – Sticky Fingers Gourmet Foods;
• Best Retail Product Award – Il Gelato;
• Excellence in Supply Chain Award – Catalano’s Seafood Secrets;
