A copper thief who allegedly stole piping from a fridge in a supermarket in Sydney’s inner west caused half a million dollars worth of food to spoil.
Police have arrested and charged the man who broke into a supermarket in Glebe at about 2:30am yesterday morning and removed the copper piping from a refrigerator.
Residents nearby the supermarket on Broadway reported the break in to police, and when officers from the Lierchardt Area Command arrived on the scene, they discovered tools that had allegedly been used to cut the copper piping from the refrigeration unit.
A 28-year-old man was seen climbing off the adjacent roof a few hours later, and was arrested by police and charged with break, enter and steal.
He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear before Balmain Local Court on 20 April.
