Mr Black crowned world’s best coffee liqueur

Australian distiller, Mr Black has been named the world’s best coffee liqueur after picking up a gold medal at the London International Wine & Spirits Competition.

The cold drip coffee liqueur was developed over a six month period and involved blending coffee from three continents to create the perfect brew.

Director and co-founder of Mr Black, Tom Baker said that the idea for the liqueur was borne out of Australia’s love of good coffee.

“In Australia we’re serious about our booze and specialty coffee, so the idea was to combine two much loved slices of contemporary culture into one cracking drink.  Mr Black is the dark side of coffee: your morning hit with a naughty nocturnal twist. Australia is home to some of the world’s best coffee, so it was about time we had a world-class coffee liqueur to match.”

Since its initial launch in 2012 (which was made possible through a crowd funding website), Mr Black has gained a cult following in Sydney and Melbourne, and is now available in over 250 bars, bottle shops and restaurants across Australia.

“Our coffee liqueur has always had a great little cult following,” says distiller Phillip Moore. “But it’s great to see it get into the hands of more drinkers around Australia.”

According to Moore, Mr Black is best enjoyed over ice or in an espresso martini, but also mixes well with the likes of rum, tequila and absinthe.
