New generation takes rein of family-owned winery

After more than 40 years, family-owned winery Jim Barry Wines has announced a succession plan to mark a new era for the company.

Peter Barry, who joined the business in 1977, will step down as managing director and hand over leadership to Tom and Sam Barry, both of whom have been involved with the business for the past 15 years.

Tom has served as director of winemaking and Sam as director of sales. The pair will now share the managing director role, supported by a leadership team they have shaped over the past five years.

Founded in 1959, Jim Barry Wines remains one of Clare Valley’s most respected family-owned wineries. In recent years, the company has enjoyed national and international success.

Under Peter’s leadership, the business expanded its vineyard holdings and export footprint through quality products and innovative methods. In 2024, Peter was inducted into the Clare Valley Wine Hall of Fame.

“Tom and Sam have worked incredibly hard over the past 15 years, learning all facets of the business and I couldn’t be prouder and more pleased to pass the baton to them,” said Peter Barry.

The two brothers will continue to lead in their respective areas of winemaking and global sales as they seek to expand the business.
