Visy has announced that a new fibre-based thermal insulation liner, Visycell, is being trialled with food delivery businesses as a replacement for expanded polystyrene (EPS).
Visycell is manufactured in Melbourne’s west and is specifically designed to withstand higher temperatures, keeping food and beverages fresh. While offering similar thermal and cushioning qualities to EPS, the new product has the added benefit of being recyclable.
“We’re working hard to help customers ditch problematic polystyrene and we’re pleased to be trialing Visycell as a new alternative,” said Visy’s, new business projects manager, Rolland Zhang.
“We think food and beverage customers will love Visycell – it will keep their product safe and fresh during transportation, is easily recycled and is locally-made.”
The insulation has undergone testing and has received certification for recyclability from the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO). It also carries the Australasian Recycling Label (ARL) and helps reduce transport costs due to its flat-pack design.
“We know it’s not just food and beverage companies wanting to ditch polystyrene, which is why Visycell has the potential to also be used to transport fragile goods and in building construction,” added Zhang.
The recyclable insulation liner could help reduce the use of EPS, of which only 20 per cent is recycled in Australia.
