Penfolds 2010 St Henri almost sold out following rave reviews

Following perfect scores from some of the industry’s most respected critics, Penfolds 2010 St Henri wine has almost completely sold out just six weeks after its release.

Critics from around the world including master of wine, Andrew Caillard awarded the wine a perfect 100-point score, leading to a surge in demand for the product according to Penfolds spokesperson, IIdi Ireland.

''It's an absolutely incredible response, the demand is unprecedented,'' Ireland told The Age.

''We have sold out at the cellar door and most of our customers are asking for more and we can't give it to them.

''All we know is there are a few odds and ends at a few good wine shops, but they are the last bottles around.''

The demand is so high that Penfolds’ chief winemaker, Peter Gago is even struggling to get his hands on some.
“I have been overseas for a few weeks and didn't get my hands on any,'' he told The Age. ''I put my order in at the cellar door, only to be told it had sold out.''

“It's the quick and the dead,'' said Gago. ''… We knew this was a good wine, but the reaction has exceeded all our expectations.''

St Henri, which retails for anywhere between $85 – $95, is renowned by Gago as one of Penfolds’ best-kept secrets, and coming in at less than a tenth of the price of Penfolds Grange, we can understand why.
