Recyclable printed pouches and rewind: A brand booster for a better world

Many of you probably don’t need reminding, but, here they are again anyway. These are the targets being embraced by industry, APCO, the Grocery Councils National Plastics Recycling Scheme and the Federal Government.

Concurrently, research shows that consumers are also embracing products that contribute to the circular economy (and other ethical initiatives).

100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging.

70% of plastic packaging being recycled or composted.

50% of average recycled content included in packaging (revised from 30 per cent in 2020).

The phase out of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics packaging.

There have been some significant challenges facing recyclable flexible packaging for food, powders, liquids and perishables, including maintaining appropriate oxygen barriers (for longevity and shelf life) and the process of collection and recycling. For a few years now, Favourite Packaging have been researching, developing and are now supplying printed recyclable pouches and rewind for food, powder, coffee, tea, liquids, berries, and other perishables.

The single material structure, a mono type of plastic deems the packaging to be 100% recyclable, while still maintaining the expected freshness and shelf longevity. Also equally important, the material looks as good (or better) with full colour digital and rotogravure printing (up to 10 colours) and all the expected types of gussets, bottoms, closures and sealing. “We have found that packaging and food companies who have converted to this exciting recyclable material have taken advantage of the switch to update their printing to include a logo or message broadcasting the recyclability to consumers”, stated Favourite Packaging’s managing Director Justin Yates.

This new flexible packaging products are helping boost brands as well as contributing to the circular economy.

Australia seems to be following a lot of leads from Europe in downstream recycling processes and Favourite Packaging are proud and excited to be at the forefront of supplying recyclable material ready for packaging food, powder, liquid and perishables.
