Report urges beef industry to take stock

Western Australia’s beef industry reforms are a step closer with changes flagged in a report released by the Agriculture and Food Minister.

The Beef Stocktake Report calls for the formation of a round table for beef producers and the establishment of an industry restructure fund.

CEO of the WA Meat Industry Association, Renata Taliskis-Bessell, says the south-west and the wheat-belt have been highlighted as possible locations for meat processing precincts. She says industry members will have a chance to make comments to the Minister.

Comments are to be received by November 6.

After that time, the Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman has indicated he will move quickly to implement the recommendations if industry is keen and signals to him this is a path they need to take.
