Rosella gets a new look in sustainable Tetra Pak packaging

Rosella

The iconic Australian food brand, Rosella, has partnered with the global food packaging company, Tetra Pak, to make the switch from cans to the Tetra Recart package – the solution with the lowest CO2 footprint in the market.

Tetra Recart packaging offers consumers a variety of advantages including portability, easy opening and pouring, which Rosella has implemented in four new flavours of Classic Soups: Condensed Tomato, Tomato Roasted Pepper, Delicious Carrot & Potato, and Creamy Pumpkin. Rosella’s new line of Classic Soups will be the first product in Australia to be packaged in the carton-based Tetra Recart package.

The Tetra Recart package has up to six times less impact on the environment compared to cans, is easier to open, and maintains freshness and keeps food safe at room temperature, all without the need for any preservatives. The package also helps reduce costs and environmental impact for retailers and distributors as it weighs 60 per cent less than cans and is designed to occupy up to 30 per cent less space on shelves and 20 per cent less space in transport vehicles.

The Tetra Recart package is the first retortable carton designed for shelf-stable food products with ingredients of almost any size such as vegetables, tomatoes, beans, baked beans, sauces, soups, ready meals traditionally filled in cans, glass jars or pouches.

“I am immensely proud of what we have been able to achieve in partnership with Tetra Pak with the relaunch of the Rosella Soup range,” Rosella CEO Michael Bartholomew said.

“Our switch to the Tetra Recart package allows us to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a more circular economy, while also delivering the classic taste of Rosella’s iconic soups for Aussies to enjoy.”

According to Tetra Pak Australia and New Zealand managing director, Andrew Pooch, there is a large focus on end-of-life at the moment. But in reality, over 99 per cent of packaging impact to climate change has occurred before products hit the shelf.

“We are thrilled to be playing a role in the transformational journey of an iconic homegrown brand like Rosella by helping their products become more sustainable,” Pooch said. “It’s great to see Rosella be the first brand in the Australian market to make the switch to Tetra Recart packages.”

As a wholly Australian family-owned company for over 125 years, Rosella has grown to become a national favourite through its range of soups, sauces, chutneys, relishes and pickled onions.

Rosella Condensed Tomato soup is available nationwide at Woolworths and Coles, while the Tomato Roasted Pepper, Delicious Carrot & Potato, and Creamy Pumpkin flavours are available nationwide at Coles. The Rosella Soup Range will also be available at selected Independent Supermarkets.
