Rudd’s talks provide hope for Aussie cattle industry

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will meet with Indonesian leader Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono this Friday to discuss the revival of Australia’s $500 m live cattle export trade.

The cattle industry is said to be optimistic that talks between the two countries may provide the catalyst for the recommence, or boost in live cattle orders as reported by The Australian.

The talks come two years after Australia implemented a five week ban on live exports amid accusations of ‘barbaric cruelty’ in Indonesian abattoirs, a claim which caused great offence to the importing nation.

Rudd’s visit to Jakarta is aimed at boosting the business relationships between the two countries with trade, regional security and economic ties at the top of the agenda.
