Industries including plastic moulding, food processing and construction materials rely on bulk raw materials stored in silos. Dimetix laser distance sensors are designed to measure material levels over long distances without contact.
As production models move closer to just in time manufacturing, accurate and repeatable level measurement is becoming more important. Excess inventory ties up capital and storage capacity, while under supply can interrupt production. Reliable monitoring of silo levels helps manufacturers manage stock more precisely.
Dimetix laser distance sensors are designed to measure material levels over long distances of 65 metres or more without contact. The non contact approach reduces wear and minimises maintenance requirements. The sensors operate across a range of bulk materials, and performance is not dependent on colour or surface type. White plastic pellets can be measured with the same level of accuracy as dry or wet gravel. Semi transparent plastic resin pellets also reflect sufficient light to allow stable readings.
The sensors support measurement ranges of up to 100 metres on natural surfaces and up to 500 metres on reflective foil. Stated accuracy is ±1 mm, with repeatability of ±0.3 mm. The operating temperature range is from -40°C to +60°C. Measurements can be integrated with PLC or PC systems, enabling automated monitoring and stock control.
Installation is supported by a visible laser beam, and configuration is carried out using dedicated software. The system is designed for ongoing operation without routine maintenance.
