SPC and Beechworth Honey named on Food Magazine Awards judging panel

SPC’s Bronwyn Powell and director of Beechworth Honey, Jodie Goldsworthy, will sit on the judging panel for the 2014 Food Magazine Awards, which is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The awards, held in August, recognise and reward innovation in the food and beverage manufacturing industry, with categories including Dairy, Confectionery, Packaging Design, Baked Goods and Ingredients Innovation.

Bronwyn Powell, marketing and innovation director at SPC, and Jodie Goldsworthy, who together with her husband Steven launched Beechworth Honey in 1993, are new additions to the Food Magazine Awards judging panel, which later this year will be given the difficult task of determining 14 of the most innovative product launches in the Australian food and beverage manufacturing industry.

Powell is a successful international marketer with extensive experience in driving marketing strategies and initiatives for global iconic brands within the consumer packaged goods, QSR/retail and rntertainment industries. She has worked across the world developing and launching new brands and rejuvenating existing brand equities, and has worked with  Goulburn Valley, 20th Century Fox, Kellogg’s, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell and Kleenex.

Prior to her current position at SPC, Powell has held senior CMO and marketing director positions in companies including George Weston Foods (Tip Top Baking) and YUM Restaurants International with a significant period as a global marketing director for KFC working in the USA and as CMO for YUM Restaurants International in Canada.

Powell is passionate about Australian grown and made food products and reigniting the love for Australia’s great brands such as SPC, Ardmona, Goulburn Valley, IXL and Taylor’s.

Jodie Goldsworthy started producing bulk honey with her husband in 1992, and in 1993 they developed the Beechworth Honey logo to help market their honey to a wider audience. Beechworth Honey is now our country’s largest independently owned specialist honey company.

Goldsworthy has a Bachelor of Applied Science and a postgraduate degree in Strategic Marketing. Her interests are the environment, regional business development, and Australian agriculture and food production. She juggles her role as director of the company with her responsibilities as a mother of three and also holds executive positions in several industry associations.

  • Peter Day – executive director – compliance, investigation and enforcement, NSW Food Authority

Ian Harrison, chief executive of the Australian Made campaign, has been confirmed as the guest speaker for this year’s event, which comprises the awards ceremony as well as a Product Showcase, where the finalists’ products are on display for all to see.

Entries are now open for the 2014 Food Magazine Awards, and will close on 1 April.
