Spice and extract manufacturing company McCormick has officially opened its new facility on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. The sustainability-focused facility marks a significant step towards waste reduction in food manufacturing.
Following seven months of construction, the waste treatment facility was unveiled to support long-term operational efficiency and sustainability. Estimated to deliver approximately $27.93 million in economic impact to the Sunshine Coast region, the upgraded facility is expected to create 90 local jobs.
“At McCormick, we are guided by our Purpose-led Performance (PLP) principles to deliver industry-leading financial performance while doing what’s right for people, communities, and the planet,” said managing director of McCormick Australia, Paris Golden.
“This upgraded facility reinforces our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and delivers lasting value to our communities and stakeholders.
“As we continue to expand our international presence, we’re investing in smart infrastructure to uphold our high standards in trade waste management.”
Supporting the growth of its Gourmet Garden brand, the facility is designed to expand production capacity both locally and internationally. Housed within a 650-square-metre building and surrounded by landscaping that includes 731 native plants, it is also designed to reduce the site’s environmental footprint.
Developed in collaboration with Aerofloat and McNab, the facility can process 25 to 40 cubic metres of wastewater per hour and includes a 500-kilolitre holding capacity. Through sustainable and efficient operations, it increases output while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
“The success of this project was driven by strong collaboration with Aerofloat and McNab, and closely supported by Unity Water and the Sunshine Coast Council, said operational project manager at McCormick Australia, Tim Cooney.
“Together, we have delivered a facility that strengthens our operational capabilities and positions us for long term sustainable growth in the Sunshine Coast region.”
The Sunshine Coast Council played a key role by providing development assistance and supporting commercial growth initiatives.
“Sunshine Coast Council applauds McCormick Australia for its contribution to the local economy, its focus on sustainability and the unwavering commitment to remain a vital part of the region’s growth and prosperity,” said Sunshine Coast mayor Rosanna Natoli.
The sustainability-focused facility demonstrates opportunities to grow Australia’s food and beverage manufacturing sector for a more sustainable future.
