The Western Australian government is working with WA’s agrifood and beverage sector on a new study aimed at mapping and reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving business energy efficiency.
The Energy Snapshot study includes a voluntary survey of food and beverage businesses across Western Australia. It will gather data on annual emissions and identify opportunities and barriers to emissions reduction, supporting progress towards the state’s net zero emissions target by 2050.
“With customers and regulators in Australia and around the globe increasingly demanding emissions data, it is important for WA agrifood and beverage suppliers to know and understand their carbon footprint,” said agriculture and food minister Jackie Jarvis.
“No matter where your business sits on the emissions journey, all WA food and beverage manufacturers are invited to participate and benefit from this free initiative.”
Businesses that take part will receive a confidential emissions benchmark report to support emissions management and planning. Participants can also register interest in receiving one of 30 comprehensive reports, which include professional advice, or one of 20 lite reports covering direct and indirect carbon emissions. These reports would otherwise carry a commercial cost.
Data from the study will be used to inform policy and program development and support sustainability planning across the sector. The findings are intended to contribute to business resilience, investment in low emissions technologies and ongoing manufacturing activity in Western Australia to reach the state’s net zero emissions target by 2050.
The initiative is being delivered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. Applications to participate in the survey and expressions of interest for emissions reports close on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.
“This initiative supports the Sectoral Emissions Reduction Strategy for WA to provide robust, credible and cost-effective pathways and priority actions for WA’s transition to net zero emissions,” said Jarvis.
“The WA government continues to drive a range of strategies to protect our environment and long term prosperity, as we continue to work with industry towards transitioning our economy to net zero emissions.”
