Supporting regional jobs and workers in wine industry

To sustain the $9.5 billion industry, the government is investing in the sustainability and profitability of Victoria’s wine industry to support regional jobs and tourism.

A $160,000 investment to Wine Australia has been announced, matched by Wine Australia to total $400,000 aimed at boosting the wine industry with the right resources. This includes expanding services and providing relevant, targeted advice, information, and support to winemakers to improve sustainability and innovation.

“We support the wine industry because it creates real jobs – in winemaking, tourism and beyond,” said minister for agriculture Ros Spence.

“Behind every one of those jobs is a worker with a family, contributing to their community and local economy – we’re on their side.”

The government’s support of the wine industry reflects the strong results it generates. Victoria’s wine sector is an integral part of the regional economy, providing jobs at wineries, vineyards and cellar doors.

With market development programs such as the $4.5 million Wine to the World export program, the government is backing the industry to capture new opportunities as part of the Victorian Wine Strategy.

“This is a vital initiative for our industry. A dedicated viticulture resource will ensure Victorian growers and producers are equipped for the future, with access to the latest knowledge, techniques, and research to adapt to climate change, improve sustainability, and build long-term resilience,” said Wine Victoria CEO Stephanie Duboudin.
