HACCP Conference Awards finalists announced

In preparation for next month's 20th Australian HACCP Conference in Melbourne, the event's organisers, SAI Global, Advancing Food Safety, have announced the finalists for the conference's awards program.

The awards will be held on 28 August as part of the three day food safety conference looking at Australia's role in the global marketplace, provideing technical updates and information on issues surrounding food exportation.

The awards finalists this year are:

Category 1: Outstanding individual nominated by an agri-food industry company.

  • Rachel Smith – MWT Foods PTY LTD
  • Newton Fernando – Fibrisol Service Australia
  • Allan Dall – Barden Produce

Category 2: Outstanding individual working as a registered food safety auditor.

  • Helen Davila – BSI/NCS International
  • Troy Arnold – SAI Global

Category 3: Outstanding company Sub-categories: single site company; multi-site company.

  • Hazeldene’s chicken
  • Kez’s Kitchen
  • Monash Health

  • Sanitarium
  • Brickwood, NSW

The awards night will also see the presentation of the Ross Peters Memorial Award.

The former technical director of Advancing Food Safety, Ross Peters played a significant role within the Australian and international food industry, driving education and innovation across the food and agricultural sector. Having worked within the food industry and government sectors for over 40 years, Peters held many senior management positions with several prominent industry-based companies and published many papers presented at food safety conferences worldwide. Sadly, Peters passed away suddenly in 2012.

Damian James, general manager, Assurance Services, Advancing Food Safety, SAI Global, said "Ross encouraged excellence within the food industry, which is what led to the creation of Advancing Food Safety over 20 years ago.

"To mark the impact of his influence on education we’ll be awarding a current industry leader who we believe has also made a significant contribution, honouring Ross’ memory and continuing his legacy within the food industry."
