Kraft Heinz appoints chief people officer in Australia

Kraft Heinz, the fifth largest food and beverage company in the world, today confirms its recent appointment of Joanne Chin as the company’s Chief People Officer in Australia. Joanne joins the company’s executive leadership team as the business continues to accelerate its innovation and expansion journey globally and locally.

In the past year, Kraft Heinz Australia has experienced growth including increasing its staff headcount and bringing a number of new products to the market.

Kraft Heinz in Australia employs more than 900 people throughout the country and is renowned for offering strong growth opportunities for its people. In Joanne’s new role, she will be responsible for helping to build a sustainable Australian business through a comprehensive people strategy, including building a thriving culture, developing strong leaders and managing current talent, as well as attracting new talent.

Chin has built her expertise in the human resources (HR) sector working for some of the world’s most innovative companies. She first began her HR career at Sydney-based law firm, Allens, after five years working as a lawyer at the company. Most recently, Chin was Head of People at Waymo (Google’s self-driving car company project) for over two years in San Francisco, and prior to this held HR leadership roles at Google for more than four years in both London and San Francisco.

In these positions, Chin honed her skills in transformational HR, designing and building new business divisions and teams. She developed employee training and development programs, as well as implemented best-practise strategies for driving outstanding workplace cultures.

The business works closely with Australian universities to on-board and train high achieving graduates annually. Many of these graduates have progressed into permanent positions and soon after achieved promotions into more senior roles.

Kraft Heinz launches $100m venture fund focused on tech companies

Kraft Heinz has committed up to $100 million to Evolv Ventures, which is a fund that will invest in emerging tech companies transforming the food industry.

The company’s CEO Bernardo Hees said new technological innovations in the food industry create endless new opportunities to strengthen business models.

“Through Evolv Ventures, we will work with tomorrow’s most innovative founders and companies in the space, and use the full resources of Kraft Heinz to help them succeed,” said Hees.

Kraft Heinz has brought on venture investor Bill Pescatello to lead the fund.

Pescatello brings more than a decade of successful venture investing experience at two leading venture funds to Kraft Heinz.

Most recently, he was a Partner at Lightbank, the Chicago venture capital fund founded by serial entrepreneurs Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell.

He was also a founding member of the Peacock Equity Fund, a $250 million global capital fund of GE Capital and NBCUniversal.

While Kraft Heinz has a long history of developing iconic brands including Philadelphia, Heinz and Oscar Mayer, the new fund will accelerate the company’s exposure to emerging technologies and businesses, and better leverage its position in the industry.

“At Evolv Ventures, we will move beyond brands to have a committed first look at our industry’s most promising and disruptive tech-enabled companies,” said Pescatello.

“With the insights, data and access available at Kraft Heinz, we look to take full advantage of our unique position and be the foremost value-added investor in the space,” he said.

Evolv Ventures will be based in Chicago.

Kraft Heinz is the fifth-largest food and beverage company in the world.

The Company’s brands include Kraft, Heinz, ABC, Capri Sun, Classico, Jell-O, Kool-Aid, Lunchables and Velveeta.

The announcement of the venture fund was made in early October, 2018.

Kraft Heinz provides thousands of meals to Rise Against Hunger

Rise Against Hunger has partnered with Kraft Heinz to pack 50,000 meals for disadvantaged communities.

Victorians are helping achieve Kraft Heinz’s global pledge to donate 1 billion meals to people in need by 2021.

Rise Against Hunger, an international non-profit hunger relief organisation, received 50,000 meals packed by Kraft Heinz employees in August.

Kraft Heinz wanted to provide hunger relief to the world’s most vulnerable populations.

The volunteer packing day saw Kraft Heinz employees pack and box micronutrient meals, which are now being delivered to schools, clinics and vocational centres all over the world.

Kraft Heinz’s Australian CEO, Bruno Lino, said the initiative has helped contribute to Kraft Heinz’s global pledge to donate 1 billion nutritious meals to people in need by 2021 as part of its partnership with the philanthropic organisation, Rise Against Hunger.

“Staff at Kraft Heinz were thrilled to be involved in helping provide hunger relief to disadvantaged communities” said Lino.

One in three people worldwide are currently affected by vitamin and mineral deficiencies, according to Kraft Heinz.

Micronutrient meals, which include rice, dried vegetables and more than 23 essential vitamins, help provide essential nourishment.

The program also works to support communities to make the difficult journey out of poverty by providing additional skills training and services.

“Our employees are extremely proud to be able to help some of the many people currently impacted by hunger all over the world. It shows that no matter where you are, there is always an opportunity to make a positive impact,” said Lino.

Rise Against Hunger delivers food and aid to disadvantaged communities with the goal of making a global impact on hunger by building resilience and self-sufficiency amongst vulnerable populations.

Kraft Heinz products are sold in nearly 200 countries with dedicated employee teams in more than 40 countries.
