Teen loses fingers at meatworks

Midfield Meat Processing has been fined $40,000 after a seventeen-year-old Sudanese refugee had three fingers amputated while working as a trainee at the Warrnambool meatworks in January 2006.

The teenager was allegedly using a single-handed pneumatic hock cutter to remove the legs from slaughtered sheep when his thumb was severed, resulting in three fingers being amputated from his left hand.
