Tesco CEO creates new executive roles to “reshape” the company

CEO of the world’s third largest retailer, Tesco has created two new roles on its executive committee in order to “reshape” the company to meet changing consumer needs.

Price cuts and a weak food market have been the catalyst for the move, which has seen CEO Phil Clarke promote Jill Easterbrook from running Tesco’s emerging health and well-being business to chief customer officer, and Matt Atkinson to chief creative officer, Reuters reports.

"This is not a traditional structure – it is the right one for a business set up to lead in the multichannel age, with the changing customer relationship at its heart," said Clarke in a press release.

The retailer is set to release its quarterly performance report on Wednesday, which is touted to be the poorest performing since Clarke took the role of CEO in 2011.
