The Aussie Pie Council is inviting baking businesses, bakers, pastry cooks and apprentices to enter their pies and sausage rolls in the baking industry’s longest running and official pie competition before 21 August.

The Official Great Aussie Pie competition will take place at Fine Food Australia at Melbourne’s ICC from 5-8 September. The council is expecting a record number of entries in all pie and sausage roll categories of the competition.

This year will see the usual titles claimed by Australia’s greatest pies and sausage rolls that meet and go beyond the high standards held by a panel of professional judges. A new Pork Pie sub-category has been added to the Gourmet Pie major title, which is sponsored by Pork Australia. Apprentices entering the Apprentice Category this year will also be required to submit a pork pie.

This year’s competition sponsors include EOI, Fine Food Australia, Heinz, Unox, Dunbrae Bakery Solutions, Lipton and Earthens. A complete list of sponsors can be found on the website. Prizes for this year’s competition include cash, equipment and ingredients, along with several other marketing benefits.

“We’re excited to share that the major title winner will receive over $20,000 worth of prizes for their business,” competition manager Danielle Lindsay said.

“Even winning gold, silver or bronze offers significant benefits, such as increased sales and promotional opportunities.”

The Official Great Aussie Pie Competition was established in 1989 and has been held yearly since, with the aim of raising the quality standards of pies and sausage rolls throughout Australia. It is facilitated by the Aussie Pie Council, which is a consortium of industry-leading businesses; Complete Display Equipment, Simple Simon (Lindsay PieMaking Equipment), and the National Baking Industry Association (NBIA).
