US army invents sandwich still fresh for 3 years

A new invention by the US military brings a whole new meaning to ‘feeding an entire army.’

The traditional vacuum-sealed options are not well received by soldiers who described the vegie omelette on offer as “like eating wet, soggy cardboard.”

So with the help of food scientists, the US military have developed a sandwich that can last up to three years in the field.

By including ingredients with “water retaining properties,” including sugar, salt and honey and cutting off oxygen supplied to the food by adding an “oxygen scavenger” pack inside the packaging, the scientists have come up with a much more appealing meal for those in the military.
