National builder, Vaughan Constructions, has won the most prestigious industry award – the Master Builder of the Year Award – at the Master Builders Association Victoria Awards 2018.
The awards, which showcase exceptional craftsmanship and standards of excellence in the commercial building sector, also honoured Vaughan with the award for Excellence in Construction of Industrial Buildings for its work on the $165 million state-of-the-art Dulux Merrifield Coatings Plant at Mickleham.
A complex build, the Dulux Merrifield Coating Plant impresses in its design and delivery.
The driving factor for the selection and detail of finishes was longevity in a harsh chemical based environment.

The facility uses a compressed air system to pump the core materials required in the paint production process through stainless steel lines throughout the entire facility.
To facilitate this, a compressor room is located on the northern end of the facility.
A VESDA system has been installed in the production and mezzaine areas of the building.
Due to the propensity for detection systems to be exposed to high levels of dust, a reflected beam smoke detection system was chosen for the powders hall, which uses mirrors and optical beams for detection.
A gas compression system is installed in the power substation and standard smoke and thermal detection systems are used throughout the remainder of the facility.
DAS Constructions won Regional Commercial Builder of the Year.
The Young Builder of the Year was awarded to Marco Bonadio.
Excellence in Health and Safety was awarded to Kane Constructions.
Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings under $3M was awarded to Fairbrother, as well as Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings $3M – $5M.
Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings $5M-$10M was awarded to S.J. Weir (Ballarat).
Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings $10M-$15M was awarded to FDC Construction and Fitout (VIC).
Excellence in Fit-Out was awarded to Buildcorp Interiors.
Excellence in Highrise Apartment Buildings was awarded to L.U. Simon Builders.
Excellence in Lowrise Apartment Buildings was awarded to VCON
Best Specialist Contractor was awarded to HBS Group.
Excellence in Civil Construction was awarded to Lloyd Group.
Best Sustainable Project was awarded to Atelier Projects.
