When fragile snacks meets controlled case packer

Snack manufacturers often find challenges in packaging due to products – such as chips– being fragile. The Ishida ACP 701 case packer aims to eliminate the challenge while increasing productivity.

The ACP 701 case packer from Ishida is a compact, high speed system designed to support end of line packaging for a range of bagged snacks. It uses continuous motion and controlled product handling to maintain efficiency while helping protect the condition of delicate snacks.

Key features includes continuous motion packing, operating at up to 12 cases per minute with steady throughput. It also has controlled product handling designed for fragile snacks such as chips and extruded items, helping to reduce breakage during packing.

Bag size and format adjustments can be made quickly to reduce downtime. A product inverter and overhead compression belt manage bag shape for more consistent case loading. The integrated case erector and loader manage case forming, filling and sealing.

The case packer has compact footprint. The layout is intended to fit into existing production lines with limited floor space.
Additionally, the ACP 701 aims to reduce waste and manage energy use by optimising case packing to limit excess materials and incorporating energy efficient components.

Pack sizes, formats and styles

The ACP 701 combines case packing, alignment, bag packing, sorting, closing and sealing in a single machine. It can handle bag widths from 108mm to 330mm across a range of bag types, including pillow, side gusset, flat bottom and HEM formats, and various pack patterns. Case and bag sizes can be set in the HMI, which selects mechanical settings and time values. Up to 500 presets are available.

The benefits for snack manufacturers include:

  • Supported throughput with consistent packing speeds.
  • Product quality maintenance through controlled handling.
  • Accommodation for mixed pack formats and multi bag configurations.
  • Reduction in manual handling through automation.

Integration with production lines

The ACP 701 is compatible with Ishida equipment including multihead weighers and bagmakers. Integrated systems allow operators to monitor line performance from a central point. The Ishida Total Packaging Solution integrates a multihead weigher, bagger, checkweigher, seal tester, case packer, metal detector and printer mounted to the bagmaker, with centralised control that allows a single preset to configure the line.
