Wimmera grain packers get a rail break

Horsham-based freight terminal operator, Wimmera Container Line, and Queensland Rail have entered into a 12-month contract for grain handling and transport.

According to Wimmera Container Lines, this deal is a life-saver for the company, and will also lower the operational costs for the local grain packing companies.

The agreement means Pacific National, which had previously been the sole provider, will be facing competition from an alternate rail supplier.

The Wimmera Regional Transport Group has lauded the agreement as a ray of hope for the region and for roads. It expressed hopes for the rail lines to the southern Mallee to also attract a train operator.
